Wharf Rd on the Shoalhaven

The NSW south coast is set to receive another foodies hot spot as restauranteur and chef David Campbell opens his second regional restaurant on Nowra’s Shoalhaven River, simply called Wharf Rd. Taking ownership of the historic Harbour Master’s residence in 2011, David Campbell and partner Nicole Campbell plan to breathe new life into the iconic waterfront building, creating a gracefully rustic space that showcases fresh local south coast produce, Australian-crafted wines and one fabulous view. Working with local interior designer Rebecca Riles (Bec has featured many times on the blog), the contemporary riverside space will seat 130 customers, with a bar perfect for dropping in for a bite to eat and a glass of wine, two private dining rooms and a main dining space opening up onto the sparkling Shoalhaven waterfront. Offering seasonal, local and sustainable produce, the menu will present fresh local seafood as well as Wagyu beef and alpaca from nearby farms, dry-aged on premises in a custom Himalayan salt brick cool room and cooked on a custom built South American-style Parrila.

“As Neil Perry once said, ‘cooking with fire is one of man’s greatest pleasures.’ Great produce, treated simply and with respect is the aim of the game here.” says Campbell.

Campbell has worked with some of Sydney's best such as Kylie Kwong and Tetsuya Wakuda in the past before turning successful restaurateur, opening another of my regular eat read love haunts 'The Book Kitchen' in Surry Hills, and Hungry Duck in Berry. Wharf Rd. is what living in, or travelling to the south coast is all about – relaxed atmosphere with a cracking view, sharing with friends and family alongside simple, delicious food and great wine. We will cheers to that!  Wharf Rd. officially opens its doors next week and I cannot wait to check it out. Stay tuned to the blog and facebook page for my review.
