Portobello Road, Notting Hill
eat read love goes into overload today!!!
Ever since I saw Julia Roberts give Hugh Grant an original 'Mark Chagall' and say 'I am just a girl, standing in front of a boy..." in that little blue travel bookshop in Notting Hill, I have always wanted to visit the Portobello Rd Markets. Just a short stroll from our B&B near Westbourne Grove, Portobello Markets begins amongst rows of pastel coloured houses surrounded by antiques, followed by fresh fruit, bread cakes and flowers. Lucky we started early (jet lag means we were all up and awake at 5am) but we missed the crowds and wandered through in the morning sunlight. So many colours, so many fabulous things to look at and buy. We settled for a vintage camera and a few old 1950's ink press letters followed by coffee and bakery treats at Gail's. Sadly I didn't see Hugh or Julia, and the little blue travel bookshop is no longer a book shop, but a small clothes shop instead called Notting Hill believe it or not. The London Tour continues.
