The Ultimate Country Retreat - Royalla Luxury Farmstay, Robertson, Southern Highlands

In need of some much needed R&R we decided to 'escape to the country' to spend a few days in the blissful Southern Highlands. A short drive from Sydney, Royalla Luxury Farmstay is 5 minutes from the small town of Robertson, a short drive from one of the best country pubs in the Southern Highlands (Burrawang), and 4o minutes to the pristine South Coast via Kangaroo Valley.

My boys absolutely loved it! In fact we all loved it. There was something for everyone at Royalla. Mr 3 and Mr 5 enjoyed their daily egg hunt, literally watching the chickens lay the eggs and then bringing them to the farmhouse for breakfast. The kids made friends with the bunnies, guinea pigs, cows and chickens. The beautiful little weir on site was just perfect to take the kids for a canoe (its only shallow) and on the way back up the hill we were greeted by the happiest little sheep running to say hello. The afternoons were spent wandering the veggie patch, toasting marshmallows on the outdoor campfire, playing in the cubbyhouse, feeding the animals, collecting firewood and building the fire in the farmhouse for the nights R&R. The afternoon light was just perfect, with the last rays on sunshine sneaking through the trees casting the most beautiful light across the valley. Evenings were spent soaking in long hot baths, sitting by the fire blissfully reading and sipping on red wine, we even took the boys for a night walk searching for wombats. Plenty of wombat holes were found, no wombats in sight this time but a sky full of stars and the comforting smell of fire smoke and crackling wood filled the air before calling it a day.

Royalla is set out perfectly for both large and small groups depending on your holiday needs. The main Farmhouse has 4 bedrooms and is perfect for one or two families or a group of friends to share with a Master bedroom retreat, children's room and two extra double bedrooms. The kitchen is fabulous with a huge big gas stove, and the entire house is a stylists dream come true with interesting little bowls, bottles and books in every corner. The Om Barn is divine, a separate luxurious suite with its own king bed, bathroom with bath, open fire and amazing valley views. This is perfect for couples looking for a little romance, or could also work for a small family to share. And then of course there is the Loveshack, a cosy little retreat for a couple to enjoy a few days in the country.  You can book the whole farm to comfortably accommodate up to 16 people across 3 dwellings. Om Barn and Loveshack are available midweek for couples or small families. James is a wonderful host and lives on site to help you with anything you may need during your stay.

You would have no reason to leave the farm for a few days it truly is that wonderful, but if you like to venture out and explore the local area, then you have plenty to choose from. Nearby Bowral hosts many gorgeous interior shops and cafes including Flour Water Salt and of course iconic two hatted Biota Dining. Burrawang Village Hotel is the most gorgeous pub, and has a beautiful French country style dining area outside overlooking the valley, and nearby Moss Vale is home to many a French Antique. Robertson is famous for its cheese factory and of course the locals favourite Pizza's in the Mist restaurant and Robertson Pub. After a few blissful days at the farm we then travelled South to Mollymook via the beautiful towns of Kangaroo Valley and Berry. It is such a gorgeous drive (albeit windy!!) and well worth it if you can add a few extra days to the trip to spend some time on the coast afterwards.

If you are in need of a little R&R whether it be with family, friends, or a group getaway, this place has everything you need to relax, unwind and really soak up the country air. All of the modern luxuries like heated floors, deep baths, crispy linen, magazines, books, breakfast essentials and more surrounded by green paddocks, farm animals, moss covered rocks, whimsical trees, and breathtaking views across the valley. I absolutely loved every minute of our stay at Royalla and will definitely return with family and friends for many years to come. It is the perfect place to eat, read and love!

Thank you to Nicole and James for such a memorable family weekend! We cant wait to return.
