EAT // The Potting Shed, The Grounds of Alexandria

The Potting Shed at The Grounds of Alexandria is a wonderful new relaxed dining space, and a lovely addition to the already buzzing inner city haven. 

 I have posted about The Grounds many times on the blog, way back in 2012 when it first opened, and now a regular visitor to this favourite 'not so secret' garden. What I love about every visit is the natural evolution of the space,  there is always a nook for the kids to discover. I love seeing how much the gardens have grown in two years, now overflowing with creeping vines, organic veggies, edible flowers, herbs and a couple of cute chickens and lambs in the back corner. The old brick work chimneys standing high above the garden are a friendly reminder that the city is not too far away from this little inner city oasis. Without these you might forget where you are.  

 I imagine The Grounds now looks exactly as it was planned to be - the vision of Ramzey Choker, Jack Hanna and Caroline Choker to create an inner city sanctuary, now bustling with people every day of the week, overgrowing with new vines and herbs, rustic BBQ dining, cake stalls, markets, florist, and farm animals. And now with a new dining space reflecting the essence of The Grounds but with a slightly different vibe and menu. The potting Shed is a slightly more relaxed space with hanging pots, seasonal menu, wine and cocktails and perfect for a brunch meeting, working lunch or a family get together, tucked away from the bustling centre courtyard. 

 Midweek is perfect for me and my little boy to explore The Grounds - less chaotic than the weekend and parking not such a hassle. We didn't have much time to line up and wait for a table so the outdoor BBQ menu was great - rustic avocado and fetta on sourdough, roast beef roll, roasted corn on the cob and a sneaky lemon meringue from the bakery to indulge with our coffees in the cafe garden.
