Art Exhibitions in Sydney, Alexander McKenzie
Alexander Mckenzie Opens Brand New Art Exhibitions in Sydney 'ACARSAID' this week at the Martin Browne Contemporary Gallery in Paddington.
Sydney based artist Alexander Mckenzie's sublime paintings explore the world between the real and the imagined, the temporal and the spiritual, a place of unease as well as the sublime. The meticulous archadian landscapes depict imagined lakes, rivers and mountains that echo a romantic lineage whilst tackling contemporary issues of belonging, confusion, memory and mortality in a strong narrative that runs through his painting.
This latest exhibition ACARSAID follows last year's sell out show THE CAIRN and features Mckenzies large dramatic landscapes in his signature greens, blues and greys. In ACARSAID, meaning anchorage in Scottish Gallic, McKenzie deals with ideas like refuge, safety, and reclusiveness. An inner shore to escape to amongst the turmoil of an emotional life.
Having seen his brilliant works at last year's exhibition I cannot wait to see the new works in person this week and I hope you like today's sneak peek. I particularly love the ornate lush green gardens and stone bridges featured in this series. Alex's paintings are truly captivating and if you get the chance you I urge you to check out his latest exhibition. I trust you will not be disappointed. I had the pleasure of taking some pics of Alexander in his home studio last year. You can read the full interview here on the blog.
Alexander Mckenzie is also well known for his multiple Archibald prize portraits of actors Toni Collette, Richard Roxburgh and singers Richard Clapton and Sarah Blasko.
Alexander recently completed a large commission for the Australian War Memorial in Canberra to be in the permanent collection in the first world war gallery as part of the 100th year anniversary of Galipolli taking place next year in 2015.
