STYLE // Kookai debut their latest Spring/Summer collection at
Carriageworks
By Hannah Mars
Designer Danielle Vagner drew on Asian and European
influences, referencing Istanbul in particular through her choice of bold
fabrics and rich textures. Representing the East-meets-West theme, the models emerged
from behind a white backdrop with Turkish-inspired cut-outs.
Shanina Shaik opened the show in an ivory, strapless culotte
jumpsuit with flowing hemlines, that could be dressed up or down with strappy
heels or a flat sandal. Among other notable catwalk names were Kookai’s latest
campaign face Talia Richman and Astrid Holler, who opened this year’s Alexander
Wang Autumn/Winter show.
True to Kookai’s Parisian-chic heritage, complete looks were
styled to traverse elegant evenings, corporate occasions and Summer days by the
beach. Favourites include a pale lilac, cap-sleeved, embroidered playsuit and a
nude, sleeveless wraparound trench dress. We also have our eye on a halter neck
bikini in a busy, bohemian pattern of blue, dark pink and white (though rocking
it like Shaik did is a different story).
