Dance // Triptych by The Sydney Dance Company
The Sydney Dance Company’s Triptych displays the creative vision of choreographer Rafael Bonachela across three captivating dance pieces. Never-before-seen work Variation 10 joins repeat performances of Simple Symphony and Les Illuminations, a romantic tribute to the compositions of Benjamin Britten, returning after a sold-out season at The Sydney Opera House in 2013.
With dramatic costumes designed by Helpmann Award-winning Toni Maticevski and music provided by The Australian Chamber Orchestra and legendary songstress Katie Noonan, Triptych is a truly unique and unforgettable show. The separate quintet for the girls and boys in Les Illuminations was so powerful and moving, with a brilliant and mesmerising solo performance by Richard Cilli. I absolutely loved the final performance featuring up to 10 dancers in wonderful stone grey consumes by Maticevski.
It was a dream come true for me to attend the preview performance last week, and meet with some of the dancers and and the incredible creative director and choreographer Rafael Bonachela afterwards. Thank you to the Sydney Dance Co crew for a fabulous and memorable evening.
