The new Kensington Street precinct is at the heart of Sydney's new emerging downtown. Gorgeous old colourful terrace houses, and industrial buildings that were once derelict and vacant have been lovingly brought back to life. Cafes, bars and restaurants now line the cute little laneways around Central Park. With wonton and noodle bars, dessert bars and more, this is such a nice place to hang out for an authentic Asian meal in the heart of Sydney. This is being named the 'new home for urban nomads, where past, present and future converge in a thriving little community'. Now home to some fabulous little art galleries, event spaces, boutiques and more, Kensington Street is one of Sydney's newest lifestyle destinations.
We discovered this fabulous little pocket of Sydney while staying at the beautifully refurbished Old Clare Hotel, once the home of the CUB Brewery, now a cool inner city haven and boutique hotel. Spice Alley, an accidental discovery on our way into town, is home to the Kopi-Tiam - four Asian hawker-style diners under glowing lantern ceilings. Here we discovered some of the best tasting Nasi Goreng, Pad Thai and Prawn Dumplings we have found in Sydney.
The new Kensington Street precinct in Chippendale is now a thriving little community, the interlacing laneways are a haven for nearby UTS students, locals and tourists. I love that the heritage and history of the area has remained in tact while offering contemporary new dining and cultural options for all. Fellow dumpling fans will rejoice. And the more upmarket Kensington Street Social is sure to become a firm favourite on the Sydney dining scene. For all the details go to Kensington Street.
